Funnily enough, I didn't happen upon this post DIRECTLY due to the fact that I use the same keyboard, but I also am trying to find a good pointing device solution to use with my Kinesis. I just got a Cirque Easy Cat which is pretty tiny. Somehow it never occurred to me to put it at the BOTTOM, first of all (I couldn't find any other touchpad that would even fit in the TOP, is I guess why), so thanks for that Idea. That looks like that might just work.

But what I was actually searching for was driver/feature information. Are you just using the regular "synaptics" Linux driver for your touchpad? Is that working well for you? Does multitouch work?

Thanks for any info!

I've been using (some variant of) the Kinesis contoured keyboard for more than a decade now. Obviously, it's been a while since I grew accustomed to it; but I think it took me about a month to acclimate to it completely. It is a very comfortable keyboard once you get to know it.

Aside from the placement of a few keys (most notably Space and Enter), it's basically a standard QWERTY layout; so in that respect it's really not all that different from a conventional keyboard.

I am told this is not a good keyboard for people with small hands.

And, yes, you can see this keyboard used as a prop in the movie Contact.

I haven’t tried one of these yet. I’d probably buy one someday (out of curiosity) if I have enough space in my office table. By the way, how long were you able to adjust to this? It looks a bit complicated to me.

I agree with you that touchpads make our life easier when using laptops. Indeed they are "especially convenient for scrolling without going to the mouse." Likewise, I am also wondering what would be the next innovation that would come after this. But why is it that touchpads are not available to desktops? I wonder why.

And you also mentioned that you are using Kinesis as keyboard, judging the picture that you have here, it looks so cool. Very much like ones that we see in science fiction movies. Are you not having hard time using that kind of keyboard? Can you please tell other perks about this kind of keyboard.

Aha. Thanks for the tip re: locking.

Sorry; I haven't used any playlist conversion software. I haven't even really used playlists; so far I've been satisified with just ordering songs on the device as I prefer.

Googling a bit, I see some Perl and Python parsers for m3u; and it appears that one Laszlo Pandy has written a Python script to parse pla, which another gentleman claims to have improved upon. So stringing these bits together (or at least the knowledge they comprise), an m3u-to-pla converter should be doable.
